Wheeler Carol Burns of Gainesville, Fla., and Stephen Michael Crawford were united in marriage at 4 p.m. March 10, 2012, at First Baptist Church in Kinston. The Rev. Robert Fulkerson of Goldsboro performed the ceremony.
Escorted by her father and presented in marriage by her parents, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Thomas Burns of Kinston.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry in 2003 from N.C. State University, and the Doctor of Pharmacy in 2008 from Campbell University. She is a clinical pharmacist at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Fla.
The groom is the son of Steven Crawford of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Judy Camp of Gainesville, Fla.
He received a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Florida and is engineering manager with The CROM Corporation.
Following a wedding trip to St. Lucia, the couple resides in Gainesville, Fla.
The bride wore a white Anjolique silk gown with a pleated fitted bodice. The princess-style bottom of the gown and train was hand appliquéd with ruched silk ribboned flowers and lace. The V-style back featured silk covered buttons extending below the waist.
Her fingertip-length illusion veil was accented with miniature pearls. She carried a bouquet of red roses and white orchids, and wore a teardrop pearl necklace with diamonds that belongs to her great-aunt Sarah Hedgpeth.
Tiffany Darden Akins of Raleigh was matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Reagan Howell of Greenville; the groom’s sister, Jocelyn Slone of Tampa, Fla.; Dr. Leigh Vail of Greensboro; Dr. Mary Covington Walker of Augusta, Ga.; and Dr. Jaqueline Young of Nashville, Tenn.
The groom’s father was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were the bride’s brother, Jason Burns of Knoxville, Tenn.; the groom’s brother, Phillip Crawford of St. Augustine, Fla.; the groom’s brother-in-law, Scott Slone of Tampa, Fla.; Kenneth Harvey of Louisville, Ky.; and Leron Owens of Gainesville, Fla.
Music was provided by Timothy Price, organist; Ashton Humphrey, vocalist; and Katherine Dennis, violinist.
Elizabeth Owens directed the wedding. Register attendant was Jamie Harvey of Louisville, Ky.
Program attendants were Kathleen Whelan and Christina Sevilla, both of Gainesville, Fla.
Reception / parties
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was given by the bride’s parents at the Community Council for the Arts. Greeters were Mr. and Mrs. Terry Jones. Dr. Dennis Michels of Kinston played the piano before the performance of The Four Knights band from Jacksonville.
On Dec. 18, a bridal shower was given by Reagan Howell and Donna Hardy at the Howell home in Greenville.
On Jan. 21, a recipe exchange brunch was given by friends of the bride at The Folded Napkin in Kinston. Also, a couple’s shower was given by friends of the bride at Olivia’s at Frenchman’s Creek, also in Kinston.
Jan. 27-30, a girls’ weekend was given by friends of the bride at Charleston, S.C. On Jan. 28, a lingerie shower was held at Folly Beach, S.C.
On Jan. 30, a bridal shower was given by women of Glen Springs Road Church of Christ at the home of Candi Richeson in Gainesville, Fla.
On Feb. 12, a couple’s shower and backyard barbecue was given by Katie Whelan, Christina Sevilla and Shanna Chambliss at the Gainesville, Fla., home of Court and Katie Whelan.
On March 9, a bridal luncheon was given by the bride’s mother at the Kinston Country Club. A “Welcome-to-Kinston” reception was given by the bride and groom at Mother Earth Brewery. A rehearsal dinner was given by the groom’s parents at Olivia’s at Frenchman’s Creek.
